Scoremote help
Everything the app does, in the order you'll need it. Names in bold are what you see on screen.
Get started
The first time you open Scoremote, three short steps set it up: pick your sport, connect your remote, and see how scoring works. Skip any of them; you can open them again from Settings ▸ Getting started.
The board shows both teams' scores. Under it, the bar holds Undo, Reset, Full screen, Settings and what your sport needs, such as Set won, Timeout or Next.
Everything is saved as it happens. Close the app, or restart the phone, and the match is still there, clock included.
Connect a remote
Most Bluetooth remotes that work with an Android phone work with Scoremote: selfie and camera remotes, media remotes, page turners and presenters. A remote isn't required: you can score by touch alone.
1. Pair it with your phone
Turn the remote on and pair it in Android's Settings ▸ Connected devices (or Bluetooth), as you would headphones. The welcome steps have a shortcut to that page.
2. Set up its buttons
Open Settings ▸ Remote control and tap Quick setup. It asks for one button at a time: Team A +1, Team B +1 and Undo (and Clock start/stop in a timed sport). Press the button you want for each, or Skip.
To add more, tap Learn one button and press it. Then tap the button in Saved buttons to give it an action. A button can do any of these:
- a team +1, +2, +3 or −1, and Undo;
- a team wins a set, or −1 set; Swap sides;
- Clock start/stop, Next period, a team timeout, Shot clock reset and short reset, a team penalty or foul;
- Full screen on/off, Reset score, New match.
Only the actions your sport uses are offered. Under the list, Not on any button yet shows what's left.
Tip: New match from the remote doesn't ask first, so put it on a long press.
Long press
Holding a button counts as a different button, so one remote can do twice as much. Choose how long a hold is in Remote control ▸ Press timing ▸ Long press: hold for (1, 2 or 3 seconds). To learn a long press, hold the button that long while learning.
Two remotes
Each remote's buttons are told apart, so two remotes can each score for one team.
Rename or delete a button
Tap a saved button: Rename and Delete are at the top of its actions.
Stop the remote changing the volume
Many remotes also turn the volume up or down, or scroll the screen. With Block remote actions on (the default), a saved remote only does what you gave it, while Scoremote is open. Other keyboards and mice keep working.
A press that arrives twice
Far from the phone, a Bluetooth press can arrive a second late, and a second press made meanwhile arrives too. Press timing ▸ Count a repeated press once within (Off, 1, 2 or 3 seconds) counts the same action once when it comes again that quickly. Undo and −1 are never held back, since you may press those several times on purpose.
Keep score
By touch
Choose how in Settings ▸ Score controls:
- − / + buttons (the default): tap the board and − and + appear on each team's panel. They hide again after a few seconds; set the time, or Never, under Hide − and +.
- Score roller: swipe a score up to add a point, down to take one away. Each swipe is one step for Undo, however far it rolls.
Undo
Undo takes back the last change: a point, a set, a timeout, a swap of sides. It remembers the last 100 changes, even after the app is closed. After New match it can still bring the previous match back, but no further. Picking a different sport starts the steps over. Undo never turns back the clock.
Reset
Reset asks which one you mean: Score to 0–0 clears the points and keeps sets won (or, in a timed sport, the clock and period). New match clears everything and saves the match to your history.
Who serves
In sports with a serve, a dot marks the serving team and moves to whoever wins each rally. At the start of a set, tap the faint ring on the team that serves first. Tap the dot to hand the serve over. Turn it off in Score controls ▸ Serve.
Swap sides
The small arrows between the panels swap the teams' places. Names, colors, scores and remote buttons stay with their team. Teams can also change ends by themselves after each set: Settings ▸ Sets ▸ Swap sides after each set.
Sets and matches
Picking a sport in Settings ▸ Sport fills in its rules: points to win a set (or game), the deciding set, the lead needed, and how many sets win the match. Change any rule and the sport becomes Custom. In tennis and padel the board counts games, and games make a set.
SET POINT and MATCH POINT show under the score of the team one point away.
When a set is won, Scoremote asks first: Next set confirms it, and so does that team's +1 again on the remote. Undo takes the point back instead. To end sets without asking, choose Settings ▸ Sets ▸ When a set is won ▸ Automatically.
You can also give a set by hand with Set won in the bar. Each set's score shows under the winner's score; change how in Sets ▸ Shown as (Stars, Number or Scores).
Fix a set
Hold a set's score on the board to remove that set. Hold the stars or the number for − and +.
End of the match
When a team wins the match, a card shows the result with each set's score and the match time. Share it, start a New match, or Undo if it ended by mistake.
Clock and timed sports
Basketball, soccer, hockey, handball, rugby, boxing and other timed sports come with a game clock above the board. Points add up over the whole game.
- Start and stop: tap the clock, or use the remote's Clock start/stop. It never starts by itself.
- Correct it: hold the clock, then use − and + for minutes and seconds.
- Next period: Next in the bar. Points carry over and the clock starts again; after the last period comes overtime if the sport has one.
- Time's up: the phone vibrates and the clock flashes. A buzzer can be turned on in Sport ▸ When time is up.
- Breaks between periods or sets start by themselves; tap the countdown to end one early.
Timeouts
Timeout in the bar (or the remote) starts a team's timeout. The marks next to a team's name show how many are left; hold them to give the last one back.
Shot clock, penalties and fouls
Where the sport has them: tap the shot clock for a full reset and hold it for a short one. Timers or Fouls in the bar add a penalty or a team foul; hold its mark under the score to take it back. Set them up in Sport ▸ Shot clock, penalties and fouls.
Tip: Settings for things your sport doesn't use are hidden. Sport ▸ Show all options shows every rule.
Match time in set sports
Settings ▸ Sport ▸ Show match time adds a timer that starts at the first point and records how long each set took.
Make it yours
- Settings ▸ Teams: names and colors. Leave a name empty to show only the color. Every color is chosen to read clearly from across a gym.
- Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Style: Broadcast (bold and dark), Material (follows your phone's light or dark theme) or Minimal (black or white).
- Appearance ▸ When a score changes: nothing, a Flash of the team's panel, or the panel filling the Full screen for a moment.
- Full screen in the bar hides everything but the scores. Tap the corner button or press Back to leave it.
Show it on a TV
Connect a TV or monitor with a USB-C to HDMI cable, or use a wireless display that works as a second screen. The board fills that screen without any buttons, and your phone keeps the controls. Turn it off in Appearance ▸ Show on a TV or monitor.
Match history
Starting a New match saves the one before it in Settings ▸ Match history: the teams, the sport, the scores, the date and the match time. Share a result to any app, delete one, or clear them all. The last 200 matches are kept on your phone.
Language
Scoremote speaks English, Español, Português, Deutsch, Français and Italiano, and follows your phone's language. On Android 13 or newer you can pick a different one just for Scoremote: Settings ▸ Language opens the right page.
Ads and Remove ads
Scoremote is free with ads: a banner on the settings pages, and now and then a full-screen ad when you start a new match or come back from the settings. Never during play, never from a remote press, and never on a TV.
Settings ▸ Remove ads removes them for good with a one-time purchase, on every phone with the same Google account. On a new phone, tap Restore purchase.
Where the law asks, you choose how ads may use your data, and can change it in Settings ▸ Privacy choices. See the privacy policy.
When something isn't right
The remote changes the volume or scrolls
Scoremote has to be open and on screen. Check that Remote control ▸ Block remote actions is on, and that the button is in Saved buttons; buttons that aren't saved are left to Android.
A button does nothing
If the board says it has no action yet, give it one in Remote control. Presses only count while the board is showing, not in the settings.
Some remotes handle a button by themselves, such as a mode switch, and send nothing to the phone. Those can't be used.
One press counted twice
Turn on Remote control ▸ Press timing ▸ Count a repeated press once within, starting with 1 second.
The remote doesn't work at all
Check that it's paired and connected in Android's Bluetooth settings, and that its battery is charged. Remotes that act like a finger on the screen need Android 10 or newer, and don't work while TalkBack is on.
The board says something is off
A short note on the board, such as "The clock is off: Settings ▸ Sport", means that button's action isn't part of your sport's rules. Pick the right sport, or turn the rule on there.
I pressed New match by mistake
Press Undo right away: the previous match comes back.
